Harry's
Shirts tm
Harry's
grandfather, along with other pioneers, helped create the American
textile industry on the banks of the Merrimack River 150 years ago.
As an energetic youngster, Harry overcame asthma to excel on the
playing fields in and around Boston, Massachusetts. When World War
II broke out, Harry was too young to enlist, but his love of country
led him to volunteer for the American Field Service, where he served
with distinction as an ambulance driver under British command.
After
the war, Harry returned from overseas to join the family textile
business in New York. The stress of city life and urban pollution
precipitated his move down east to the Maine coast where he pursued
his passions for fishing, hunting, sailing, skiing, tennis,
gardening and birding. “Just following doctor’s orders”, Harry
would say.
Harry,
who naturally appreciated the intricacies of finer manufacturing,
was very much the “sharp dresser". For city appointments, he’d
sport a two button worsted wool suit, a Sea Island cotton dress
shirt and a polished pair of sturdy leather dress shoes. For his
play time, which was significant, Harry always wore pima cotton woven
sport shirts, generously cut, in what he he fondly referred to as
“snappy patterns". As he said, “Gentlemen don’t wear
knits.”
As
a tribute to a gentleman, a true outdoorsman and friend, we
introduce "Harry’s Shirts”, finely woven cotton sport
shirts which we know Harry would have worn with pride- all in “snappy”
patterns, all generous in fit and detail, and all at a fair price-in
other words, a true Yankee style and a real Yankee bargain.
